Canadian-born actress Katheryn Winnick is best known for her TV roles on the TV series Big Sky (Jenny Hoyt), Vikings (Lagertha), and Bones (Hannah Burley), among others.
The gorgeous and talented Hollywood star recently stepped out on the red carpet at the legendary Cannes Film Festival where her latest project, Sean Penn’s Flag Day, is under consideration.
Katheryn plays the ex-wife of Sean Penn’s character — he stars and directs.
At Cannes, Katheryn wore a stunning curve-hugging black and white dress (with a cape!) custom made by designer Stella McCartney.
Flag Day is about a father (Sean Penn) who lives a double life as a counterfeiter, bank robber and con man in order to provide for his daughter (Sean’s real life daughter actress Dylan Penn).
Josh Brolin and Regina King co-star. Flag Day is based on the novel Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life by Jennifer Vogel.
Vikings: Alexander Ludwig shows support for co-star Katheryn Winnick’s major film role
Katheryn Winnick has joined the main cast of Flag Day, an upcoming drama film from actor and director Sean Penn.
The former Vikings star ended her tenure as Lagertha early last year, before the final instalment came to an end on Amazon Prime Video, and has been building hype for her latest role with a new post on Instagram.
The two Canadian actors starred as mother and son for five seasons of Michael Hirst’s thrilling medieval drama, before Lagertha was slain midway through season six.
After Bjorn also died a death worthy of a spot in Valhalla, the Vikings alums quickly set about lining up more prominent roles on the big and small screen.
Following her stint as Jenny Hoyt in ABC’s new mystery drama, Big Sky, Winnick will join a cast of Hollywood A-listers in Sean Penn’s new film, Flag Day.
The actor-director will co-star with his daughter Dylan Penn in the upcoming drama about a father who lives a double life as a criminal and con man to provide for his daughter.
Winnick was confirmed to be joining the cast back in 2019, and is set to have its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in July.
The ex-Viking took to her personal Instagram page after Deadline reported that MGM had acquired the new film.
She captioned her new post: “FLAG DAY, directed by the one and only Sean Penn, is premiering at Cannes Film Festival and hitting movie theaters this year!”
“A true labour of love, took almost a decade to get made. Honored to be a part of this incredible story.”
Her post drew excited comments from her 5.4 million followers, including Alexander Ludwig who commented: “Woooo!!!!!”
Ludwig’s post-Vikings credits are just as impressive, landing a key role in the upcoming Starz series Heels, as well as several major films on the way.
The actress’s collaborator and fellow producer India Dupre also wrote: “So proud of you!!!!! You worked your butt off in this!”
