I’m sick and tired of having to explain myself year after year after year for not having kids, Jennifer Aniston lament

Jennifer Aniston is sick and tired of reading rumors about herself on the internet. So she’s taken a stand, writing a powerful blog post for The Huffington Post explaining how exhausted she is with the way she’s been treated. In the piece, she addresses a recent incident where she was photographed on the beach and numerous outlets jumped to the conclusion that she was pregnant—simply because of the way her body looked.

“For the record, I am not pregnant,” Aniston wrote. “What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of ‘journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment’ and ‘celebrity news.'”

The 47-year-old, who married Justin Theroux last year, explained that she is tired of being harassed by paparazzi every time she leaves her home. Furthermore, she is frustrated with constant scrutiny of her body and the focus on her looks.

“If I am some kind of symbol to some people out there, then clearly I am an example of the lens through which we, as a society, view our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, female friends and colleagues,” she wrote. “The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing. The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”

Aniston goes on to make an incredibly important point: That a woman does not need to be a mother to be “complete.””The sheer amount of resources being spent right now by press trying to simply uncover whether or not I am pregnant (for the bajillionth time… but who’s counting) points to the perpetuation of this notion that women are somehow incomplete, unsuccessful, or unhappy if they’re not married with children,” she wrote.

She concludes her essay by stating that she refuses to let fake stories make her feel bad about herself, and encourages readers to look critically at tabloid gossip stories.Bravo, Jen, on an incredibly thoughtful and much-needed piece. You can read the whole thing here.
