PRINCE HARRY and Meghan Markle are set to get a new neighbour after a £22 million “palace” has gone up for sale near them in California. The Montecito property is touted as “California’s Palace of Versailles” and any potential buyer will need to fork out a whopping $29,500,000 (£22,234,297) to own the house. Based near Santa Monica the sprawling home is at the centre of a celebrity-packed neighbourhood.
Names such as Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and Adam Levine all have homes near the impressive pile. Inside the house, it has five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, a secure bank vault and secret tunnel can also be found within the underground area of the property.
But one of the standout features of the home is said to be the dark French marble, which lines the floor of the kitchen area. This marble alone is thought to cost millions of dollars. The millions spent on the marble does not even include the cost of the gold bathroom, as well as the majestic chandeliers – which can be found all across the house.
The aforementioned tunnel underneath the home is said to be able to hold 200 bottles of wine. Other features of the property include a wet bar, a gym, sauna, steam room, swimming pool and a putting green. MailOnline also reports that there are also plans for a cinema to be constructed.
In the garden, the future homeowners will be able to look upon the 1,000-year-old Carrara fountain or spend time with the patented roses – said to be exclusive to only that property. The property is held by Berkshire Hathaway Luxury Collection.
Despite speculation the Sussexes planned to visit Britain for Christmas, the spread of Omicron makes it likely they will stay put in the US. Harry’s brother Prince William and his family are understood to be spending Christmas at their country home Anmer Hall in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
The home holds an impressive 775 rooms in total, including 19 staterooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. It was given to the couple by the Queen as a gift at their wedding in 2011.
The couple often divide their time between Kensington Palace and their country estate. Prior to Kate and William moving in, £1.5 million refurbishments were made which included a conservatory, rerouting the driveway and redesigning the interior.
In the garden, a Wendy house, a wooden seesaw, and a lovely lawn surrounded by plants can all be found. The home had previously been lived in by the Duke and Duchess of Kent. Between 2015 to 2017, both Kate and William lived in the property full-time.
