Meghan Markle’s first Christmas gift for the Queen that made her burst out laughing

 

It’s well known that the royals like to exchange jokey presents with each other at Christmas – and it seems Meghan Markle’s first Christmas gift for the Queen more than pleased Her Majesty .Christmas shopping can be hard enough without having to buy for one of the world’s most famous women – the Queen.

 

 

And while spending her first Christmas with now-husband Prince Harry, Meghan Markle had to find a gift for her then-fiancee’s grandmother.

 

 

But it appears that Meghan not only stuck to the rule that royal presents should be cheap and cheeky – her gift delighted not only Her Majesty but her dogs too. It was reported that Meghan bought the Queen a singing hamster, which led the monarch to burst out laughing, remarking: “It can keep my dogs company.”

 

 

Meanwhile, not only did Meghan impress the Queen during her first Christmas at Sandringham, she also impressed her future brother-in-law, Prince William, with her gift choices. According to the biography Finding Freedom, she nailed his gift – a spoon with the words ‘Cereal Killer’ on it.

 

 

The authors wrote: “Meghan’s biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family. “At least one of her gifts was a huge hit—a spoon for William that had ‘cereal killer’ embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil.”

 

 

Like Meghan, the Duchess of Cambridge was no doubt similarly nervous to Meghan when she spent her first Christmas at Sandringham in 2011. However, rather than hitting the High Street or furiously searching online for a gift for the Queen, Kate came up with an idea for a more personal homemade present – and it appears it went down very well with Her Majesty.

 

 

Speaking in a documentary to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, Kate revealed what the thoughtful gift was. She explained: “I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas. And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present.

 

 

“I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. “And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something,’ which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe for chutney.

 

 

“I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table. “I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
