Salma Hayek says her ‘big’ bum burst out of Oscars gown just hours before ceremony

Salma Hayek is famous for her red carpet fashion, but she came close to disaster at the Oscars back in 2003.

The 54-year-old star admitted her “big butt” split her gown in two, just hours before the coveted awards ceremony began, leaving her stuck.

Luckily, longtime pal Renee Zellweger stepped in to help and offered her a brand-new gown to wear in front of the celeb crowds.

The Frida star was chatting at the National Board of Review Awards Gala about her 2003 Oscar nomination for the “Best Actress” award, along with pal Renee, when the story came to light.

Speaking about their joint-nomination, she said: “It was annoying because at some point I would go, I wish she wins, she’s so amazing,”

“And even the night before when my big butt exploded the seams of my Oscar dress and I had no dress for the Oscars, she ended up giving me one of her dresses that, thank God, was wide here [gestured around her butt] and stretchy here [gestured around her breasts].

Unfortunately, both ladies lost out to Nicole Kidman for her role in The Hours that year, though Salma looked sensational in Renee’s back-up dress.

Designed by Carolina Herrera, the gown featured a lace bodice and a flowing white skirt.
